If you cannot reach the qualifications of being a police officer, then despair not. Because there is the chance of still being part of the law enforcement. One can still aspire for the position of being a security guard. Now, there is no reason to fret about getting the impression that you are being demoted. Let us for example look at a picture of a security guard. Being a security guard now is one of the noblest professions there is. It is because with so much threat on the country, and the national budget for security decreasing, security agencies are forced to equip their security guards far more than what security guards were originally equipped with.
A picture of a security guard will send images to your mind about what security guards do. A picture of a security guard will paint mental images of them walking around with their batons, whistling with that sinister look, sitting with their big fat bellies protruding while drinking their usual cup of coffee and donut. These are the stark images when a picture of a security guard is seen. However, these days, a picture of a security guard no longer paints that kind of image. Rather, security guards now are seen as much confident individuals who are competent and very efficient when it comes to handling their jobs.

For competent security guards to be licensed, they will have to follow the usual protocol in order to be one. First and foremost, they have to consider the rules and regulations of the state where they live in regarding the application for a license in being a security guard. For instance, they have to meet the basic requirements such as being of legal age.
Another requirement for being a licensed security guard is that classroom training must be completed by the aspiring security guard. Here, the usual picture of a SG getting their usual basic training of fire prevention and patrolling is already old school. The new picture of a SG who attends a prestigious security guard training school is one that has a curriculum that includes not only the usual fire prevention and patrolling subjects, but also more up to date and very applicable subjects such as basic law enforcement, local and international law, criminal justice, learning how to operate scanners and x-rays, basic combat and fire arm handling, analyzing human behavior, first aid, handling conflicts, violence and harassments, and lastly, even customer service. These are now the more updated security guard manual contents. Of course, the aspiring security guard must also pass the background check and drug test, to prove that they are really worthy to serve the public and be part of the peacekeeping force. With these improvements alone, the usual picture of a SG that usually flashes in one’s mind is now also improved.
Speaking of a picture of a SG, obviously a licensed security guard must have a photo identification card. Although some states do not necessarily require this, still for identification purposes, it is best that security guards have photo identification cards.
The security guards must have their photos taken from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. They must see to it that they have an appointment that is scheduled and they would only have to pay a minimal fee. Usually, a $5 is all that they will have to pay for their photo identification card. To provide additional proof, the security guards who will have their photo identification cards taken should present any other valid identification cards such as their current state driver’s license or a passport that is still valid.
