Become A Marine Security Guard

In order to become a marine security guard, extensive training is highly required and the training program involves teaching potential security guards how to response to terrorist attacks, emergencies, riots, social unrest and many others. One of the toughest schools in the Marines is the Marine Security Guard School and it has a dropout rate of 30 to 35 percent. If you want to be a Marine security guard, you need to be enlisted with the Marines and other things which the school will require from you such as graduation from boot camp, attaining the rank of E-2 and many others. Here are the step by step processes you can follow if you want to be part of the Marine security guards.

It is important that you enlist with the Marine Corps. The marine security guards consider candidates from any military occupational specialty (MOS) welcome. However, there are certain requirements that you need to comply with such as passing the written test with a minimum score of 90. You also need to pass the medical exam with a marine doctor.

You also need to graduate from boot camp and MOS schools for you to become a qualified Marine security guard. Paris Island in South Carolina is the place where the training is held. In a span of 12 weeks, applicants will have to undergo weapon training, hand to hand combat, education, leadership training and many others. MOS requires discussion with other recruiter as the requirements may vary.

After you graduate from bootcamp, you also need to serve at an assigned unit and should show exemplary service. After you complete the training from MOS you will then receive an assignment with the corresponding station you are going to be assigned in. it is expected from a marine to exceed expectations. After six months of service performing up to standard, the marine will progress to the rank of E2 or private first class.

Once you got past the training and have progressed to E2 or private first class, the next thing you need to do is request to the unit’s career retention specialist for duty as a security guard. Once the team makes a selection, you will need to undergo another interview process, take a medical exam and pass the fitness test. You also need to complete the security questionnaire as well. Once you pass all these, you will need to report for training at the Marine Security Guard Training school in Quantico Virginia.

It is important to keep your records exemplary for better opportunities as this is not always given to marine security guards. You also need to be aware that those who fail to comply with the requirements cannot give you a better chance at graduating from Marine security guard school. The responsibilities that the job entails can be hard but if you are prepared for them, there is no reason to not graduate from MOS.
